Descaling aluminium kettle

Postby Annie on Mon Mar 22, 2010 1:53 pm

Just about to move house and inherit a blue 3 door AGA. I've been given a well-loved AGA kettle, which I think is aluminium? It's very heavily scaled and I would like to clean it, but wonder if using vinegar (as I would on a normal electric kettle) would corrode the aluminium.

Any suggestions very welcome!

Thanks,

Annie

Fill the kettle with water and put into the freezer overnight. Defrosting wil loosen and remove limescale in the kettle. If it is very scaled up, you might need two or three goes. Once clean, keep it empty, only boil as much water as you need for that cup of tea etc. and then pour away what it left - an empty kettle cannot scale up!
